Yunger Halpern describes the basic theories of quantum thermodynamics in this book, which brings to life the dramatic scientific and technological implications of a new field of study. Using her trademark inventive approach to conveying complex ideas, Halpern uses analogies, analogies, analogies. A bonus DVD with 12 short animations introduces the key concepts in a fun and easy to understand way. No previous knowledge of physics or chemistry is required.
[This is the first of 2 parts. Part 2 will be published early next year.]
The book features an introductory chapter, in which Halpern explains what quantum thermodynamics is and what it means for the future. It also introduces readers to the main characters and main ideas of the book, including qubits, quantum computers, quantum networks, and quantum phase transitions. The next four chapters are devoted to a whirlwind tour of the practical applications of quantum thermodynamics, and the following four chapters explore the theoretical foundations of the idea. The final four chapters are devoted to the experimental evidence, at atomic and nanoscale levels, for the many predictions of quantum thermodynamics.
Predicting the speed of machines, the power of engines, and the efficiency of computers, the next revolution will be the fusion of thermodynamics and quantum mechanics, with the promise of limitless energy and better information processing. Quantum Steampunk is a tour through this new field of science and an exploration of the possibilities, with a focus on the possibilities that come with steampunk-inspired science.
We will explore the wide variety of materials that make up our soils. We will also examine their properties. We will explore the dynamics of soils and how soils are formed. We will explore the importance of soils in sustaining all life on earth, what can be learned about the history of the earth from studying soils, and how soils can be utilized for many products and services. Finally, we will look at the various methods of soil science.
In this course, we will explore soil as a living, dynamic entity that, in many ways, is our universe. Our soil is not just dirt; it is a diverse ecosystem that sustains all life on earth. It is an entity that is the result of millions of years of geological events and the complex interactions of biological, chemical, and physical processes that result in soils.
This course is part of the Community and Outreach Program for Elementary Educators (COPE) established by the National Council on Teacher Quality (NCTQ). The purpose of COPE is to enable elementary teachers to learn about each other, the K-12 education field and their colleagues across the nation. The NCTQ also offers other teacher-focused programs as part of the COPE annual convention, such as the Elementary Teacher of the Year Conference and the Staff Development Grant Program. The NCTQ also offers NCTQ Certification for elementary teachers to become a member of the National Council on Teacher Quality family. The certification program offers a series of in-service training opportunities, certification examinations and special events throughout the year to strengthen teacher leadership and support quality teaching and learning in all schools. 827ec27edc
